Yep, and your teen has decided they are old enough to swear. So how do you teach your appropriate teen language, and is a swear jar effective in helping teens watch their language?
The swear jar is a visible tool to help your teen or anyone else in the house visibly see how often they are exhibiting negative behavior. A swear jar label and with guidelines listed provide clear direction. Additionally, as a parent, you can provide an additional incentive if you choose, by adding a second jar. As the parent, you commit to adding a payment to this jar when an entire day occurs without cussing. Dedicate the monies from both jars to a specific cause such as household party, charity, or an outing.
From the beginning, let your teen know where you stand on swearing. Open honest dialog works best. If swear words will not be allowed, it is crucial to approach the situation immediately.

We just had to basically stop swearing around the kids, because the alternative would be them swearing around their friends or at church, which was not an option.
